From the late 1970s. A pressed steel Buddy L Greyhound Americruiser bus. Possibly a MC 7. One of the easiest toy buses for the new toy bus collector to acquire. This has the green tinted windows and is made in Japan. Later versions with the amber windows were not made in Japan.
YOUR COMMENTS
I have two models of this same bus. One has green tinted windows the other has amber. They were both built in Japan.
Yea how much is that bus? and where there seats inside that bus? please let me know thank you
Oh my God!!! I had so many of these Buddy L buses I can't even count, no they didn't have seats to answer someones question wow just bring back old memories fro the late 70's to early 80's
I have been an MCI bus fan most of my life, and I look at every one of them that drives by,just to see what company it is and what Model number,I kind of made that a hobby of mine:)
I have this one particular bus myself and the windshield is an amber color.
And I noticed that the model # of this bus is missing, it is an MCI MC8
There were 7 variations of this bus. The first 4 were made in Japan. The original had BUDDY L embossed on the base. The 2nd had the year on the base, but no licensing info. From this variation on, BUDDY L is debossed on the base. The 3rd had no year on the base, but had embossed licensing info. The 4th had both year and embossed licensing info on the base. The next 3 variations were made in Macau. First had the original white wheel hubs, 2nd had chrome 5 dot wheel hubs and the last variation had the side window modified as an MC-9 with rear tail lights lithographed to reflect the change, however the actual tinplating on the rear is still embossed as an MC-8. The MC-9 version was out for a very short time before being discontinued from the market - thus fairly rare version to find.
Frankie,
Thank you so much for providing us model and toy bus collectors with the additional info on the Buddy L Greyhound bus. Never knew there were seven variations. Do you have all of these? Thanks again and feel free to provide info on any other bus models on the site.
Yes, I have all seven variations. I'm glad I can be of help. BTW, is it possible for me to include photos to support some of my comments?
The closest Motor coach to this model seems to be an MC8. They started making them in the early to mid 70s. The MC8 was flatter at the front than the MC7 plus the 7 had skylight windows where the 8 just had the contour like what's modelled here. Greyhound Canada had quite a few of them. Probably drove them more than anything else in my 12 years as a Canadian Hound driver between 76 and 88. Greyhounds' 8s were automatics. The 7s were a 4 speed spicer box. The 7s were the best bus MCI ever made ! ! My opinion.
